I'm reading Sister Carrie for my history class and it is SO DEPRESSING. Like, I'm really enjoying it, and I can't wait to find out what happens to the characters, but the book is all about being poor and unhappy and adrift and Ooh, I do not want to think about this right now. Especially when I'm so busy freaking out about jobs and living situations and such, myself.

Then I came to the computer lab and researched apartments for approximately twenty minutes, and I sent a few emails to people who have rooms to fill, and that made me feel much better and more hopeful. I'm strong and capable! Or something. I was going to do some math homework next, but maybe I should save it until after another bout of reading so it can cheer me up again after Dreiser drags my spirits through the dirt.

I've seen lots of people keeping a tally of what they're reading, and I think that's a great idea. So here are the books I've read this year (since January):

McTeague by Frank Norris
The Awakening by Kate Chopin
Antigone by Sophocles
An adaptation of Antigone by Jean Anouilh
Galileo by Bertolt Brecht

Not a fun list, so far. The first two were for a class; the other three were things the Boy and I considered directing. It's been so long since I've read anything just for kicks. My sisters have been on my case to read the Uglies series by Scott Westerfield, which sounds fantastic. Maybe I can make that my project for when I have some free time. And, um. I'm embarrassed to say that I have yet to finish the Series of Unfortunate Events. I plan to plunge back into that soon, too.

Oh, and on an unrelated note, I feel it's only fair to clarify the situation with the Boy. Usually that terminology indicates some romantic involvement. Alas, that is not the case with Boy and me. I'll have to think of something else to call him. In the meantime, don't imagine my life is more interesting than it is.

I've been very remiss about reading my flist this past week. I'll have to get right on that. Big news is coming! I don't want to miss it.
