Reconstruction, finally

A month ago today I had a really not-fun experience when the downstairs part of the house flooded, that on top of getting some really bad news. I had to deal with plumbers, demolition people, insurance agents, painters, construction people, carpet people, and tons of contractors to the house to get things fixed back up ( Read more... )

Oh wow...I didn't realize it had flooded into the outer room as well. o_o I'm glad for you that it's being taken care of now. :)

Well, it only flooded about a 6' x 8' rectangle of carpet, but apparently the carpet people said that they have to rip out the whole carpet and replace it, they can't just patch a piece of carpet back in because it would look like crap.

So I have a $2200 carpet allowance, and I spent another $600 or so for the upgrade-- so we'll see when the new carpet comes, it was something I was wanting to put in someday anyway. Hopefully in the end I'll come out ahead after going through this whole ordeal.

Well it looks like they are doing good work, according to the pictures.....I went though something like this a long time ago....We owned a 17 unit Motel, that was flooded by a flash flood, so I kind-of relate to your feelings.....But it looks like your over the hump now and you can press-on to bigger and better things...hang in there my friend....*HUGS

Now I just have to plan for the next half a year to get the room ready for pups. That alone will take a long time!

Well, not till the cleaning people get here! Right now it's a lot of dust and a lot of junk that needs to be cleaned up outside the range of the camera.

And BTW, thanks ;)

Wow, sorry to hear about all the crap you've gone through.
I only really saw your house properly at your (Halloween?) bash, and it looked lovely. I'm sure it will again soon.

I'll try and work a visit down into my schedule soon.

The same thing happened to my house last October! The washer drain pipe in the wall between the living room and the laundry room broke and flooded out the living room and hallway. What a disaster! I had to call the insurance company, have someone come out and evaluate the damage, get a plumber in to fix the drain pipe, I repaired the drywall, textured, and painted the wall on both sides, ripped up all the carpet, and then poured bleach on the damaged plywood. Then dried it with fans and a hair dryer. Luckily no dry rot. Then the new carpet went down. What a nuisance!
