However, Alan was already there, sitting at a table with a stack of books beside him. He was flipping through the books, trying to make sense of everything. The good thing was he was a speed-reader. It never took him long to research something because it took him a very short time to read a page.

He closed the book in his hand, setting it aside before grabbing another off the pile, researching diligently. He needed to stop this. He needed to get rid of the darkness. He had to save Alice...he had to find a way to keep her safe and still be around her. It had too much power..it had...

....

Why was there no sentient light?

He pondered this silently as he continued to read the book. What would happen if he found out a legitimate way to write sentient light into existence.

The Siren's step faltered when she saw the professor sitting at a table. Hm, she should have headed out earlier and not dawdled. Well, it was too late now. Now it became necessary to figure out a proper story... Or at least an explanation he couldn't reject. Making her way around the table, so she could lean on the chair across from him, Lilith put on an easy expression.

"This is your research, Alan?" she kept her voice hushed and smooth, tawny eyes gazing at him from beneath her red hair. It seemed like a lot of material to get through, just from a single glance.

--And of course he had a book that looked suspiciously like the one she wanted too. A slight frown slipped onto her lips. She couldn't just ask for it right now. Which meant this was more difficult than she thought it would be.

He glanced up from his reading. "...That's Mr. Wake to you, Lilith....Keep in mind I'm your superior. Got it?" He sighed, flipping another page. "Yes....this is my research. I'm guessing you're here for research on the subject too?"

"Not yet," and a rather smug smile were her only responses to his insistance that she use a more respectful way to address him. After that however, she quieted, leaning forward even more to see what he was reading. She could sort of read upside down, and caught a couple words, but didn't focus on it too much. At his question, however, she returned her eyes to his. "I might be. It's intriguing."

With that, she pulled the chair out, turned it around so the back of it rested against the table, and sat astride it before speaking again. "What did you find?"
