PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate, also abbreviated PETE) is the stuff soda bottles, and anything else with a little 1 inside the recycling symbol on the bottom, are made out of. 4/5 of it ends up as litter and landfill; only 1/5 is recycled. Recycle your bottles, people! Also, interestingly, PET bottles are not intended for reuse, despite how many people keep refilling their old soda bottles with tap water or whatever - apparently stuff from the plastic starts to leach into the water if you keep reusing it. I have a fact guide about various plastics, and the potential health hazards thereof, on my fridge because I am a geek. (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plastic_bottle for more info about what various types of plastic go into various bottles.)
Bamboo, however, is made of rainbows and sunshine and will most certainly save you from a Giant Panda attack in DC.
