Homemade Pasta

A lot of people are intimidated by homemade pasta.. it's really not that hard! The majority of the work is in the rolling and slicing part. You can speed up that portion with a hand cranked pasta machine, an attachment for your kitchenaid, or heck.. a pasta machine. I actually prefer to hand roll it though, it's just more fun to me that way! ( Read more... )

I'm pretty much clear-dishes exclusive. ;) Cups, plates, bowls.. I used to move so much that I wanted dishes that would match any apartment or kitchen!

Your version is the one that we used to use! It was tasty but it was a LOT more difficult to roll out. Maybe if we get that kitchenaid attachment I'll start using it again.. We've actually been making our own pasta less frequently, because my favorite local grocery store offers fresh pasta in three varieties - regular egg pasta, spinach pasta, and red pepper pasta. Mmmm... pretty cheap too, cheaper than the normal pre-packaged fresh kind (and obviously fresher!) Oh, AND they offer those 3 flavors in homemade lasagna sheets too. They're HUGE! We made veggie lasagna with the fresh spinach pasta sheets - amazingly delicious. :)

Homemade noodles, one of my family's Turkey and Christmas Day Traditional meal items. I use just egg and flour when making them and roll them out by hand and get them paper thin.

That's a tradition I could get used to! :) I think my arms just get too tired to roll it out as thin as it should be. Our counters are really tall and I'm really short. I think I need a step stool, ha ha!

Or making sure your dough isn't to tough. To much flour makes it really hard to roll out the dough. Finding that balance is the trick. ^_^

This dough was nice and soft, but I have a difficult time with anything that involves repetitive motion (stirring, kneading, rolling, etc.) either at the counter or stove top. It really hurts my shoulders, because the force/motion is being exerted outward (or just higher up than comfortable) instead of downward. Puts a lot of strain on my shoulders/arms. Everything in our apartment is really tall, like they were building it for the jolly green giant. :) I really do think I need a step stool! I only hesitate to use one because I feel like I'd need to run over and get something while cooking and probably fall off of it. Ha!
