After being confused by the many steps and procedures one has to go through to legally purchase a handgun in New Jersey, I'm pleasantly surprised by how relatively simple the process is here in Virginia. Assuming I did my research correctly, it looks like I need neither a permit to purchase nor a license to own a handgun. I don't need to register

I don't find it surprising that buying a gun in VA is so easy. From what I've heard/read, VA is very friendly to gun lovers. But, your post gave me a chuckle because you went from talking about guns to talk about buying a bike. You should get a concealed carry license and ride around on your bike strapped.

I live in Fairfax County, and I believe I have to apply with them, and not the state (or the "Commonwealth", as it were), for a concealed carry. I've heard the county is somewhat strict with these permits; you really have to prove that your livelihood or personal safety requires a concealed carry. Fairfax County is pretty liberal and diverse and tends to skew Democrat in most elections, so I'm not surprised.

I've heard about mountain bikers riding strapped. It's actually quite legal provided the gun is not concealed, but I'd be afraid of pulling a Plaxico Burress and shooting myself in the ass when I fall off my bike.
