I've never used a garlic press, just the flat side of a chef's knife. But a meat tenderizer/ax would work well, too.

Just as long as it's not an icon and an ax.

I heard that using a garlic press ruins the flavor! and that mincing preserves it. go figure.
but it's the cooking that really ruins the flavor.
