The What I Did This Year Meme, Year 2

Dec 07, 2005 14:12

Ha, dominanefret just did this meme, and I thought for sure I had done it before. Yup, I did, and had added it to memories. The one she just did had a lot more questions than the one I did last year, so I think I'm going to stick with the old one, for continuity's sake.

1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?
- attended a hockey game
- went to SUUSI
- got pictures professionally framed
- moved my office and my home at the same time
- played Katamari Damacy (we didn't start playing it until springtime, right?)
- watched Firefly
- gave a Beacon Hill walking tour all by myself

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't think I made any last year. Well, wait, there's the book reading thing. I'm pretty close to 100 total, I think I'll make it. That's nice. I'll probably keep track again next year.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My childhood best friend, Alli, had a baby.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Someone I used to know. It was kind of a shock, especially since I hadn't seen him in like four years.

5. What countries did you visit?
Just the US of A.

6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?
Motivation to start writing again. Motivation to send things out to journals. Decisiveness. More appreciation for the good things I have. (Ha, I just kept the exact same thing I wrote last year. God, that's sad.)

7. What dates from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
- January: When we got stuck downtown in a blizzard and had to fight our way home on the T at 6am.
- February: Hosting my first dinner party (and succeeding!).
- March: Spending a wonderful weekend in San Francisco with my Jornzor.
- April: The cheeseman-esque guy who asked to lick my boots at Manray.
- May: finishing my final project for my book art class. And then doing a happy little dance. And the night I went to the last class, then out for drinks with the girls, then out for more drinks for Dyl's birthday. That was a good night.
- July: Going tubing at SUUSI.
- August: The neverending moving. Also, snagging a freelance proofing gig, and how proud I was of the good work I did.
- September: Visiting Amy & Josh in Denver for the first time; getting my raise!
- October: The constant haze of unpacking. Also, the really nice, relaxing weekend on LBI.
- November: Totally rocking on my Maya midterm.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Keeping track of the books I read. Moving. In a big way. It was so much work to be moving at home and at work all at once, and I made it happen and it all came together. I was really proud of myself after I planned and cooked for my dinner party, and really proud that I stuck it out through all of the book art class.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Starting to write again. Or, rather, not doing so.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Thankfully, no.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
My computer, my black leather boots, the ticket to London (for March 2006), really good holiday gifts for certain people.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Jorn, for putting up with me and my craziness. Dann, for helping me hang all those pictures and being just an all-around great friend. Amy, because she weathered some crappy-ass stuff with more grace than I have on my best days. The same Amy, for being the goddess of my move and an excellent friend.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Amy's doctor who basically told her she was a hypochondriac. And, out of every government official who behaved poorly, I'm going to pick Condoleeza Rice, for going shoe shopping while people were drowning in New Orleans.

14. Where did most of your money go?
My computer. Eating at restaurants all the time and hardly ever cooking at home. But you know what, that's okay.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Going to San Francisco for a vacation in March. Sleeping. Getting a freelance proofing gig. Getting a raise. Seeing Serenity, and Goblet of Fire, and Narnia. The Pirate Faire. Getting our housewarming party over with so I could stop cleaning all the time.

16. What song will always remind you of 2005?
Tutti Frutti Summer Love.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? I don't know. Happier in a lot of ways.
b) thinner or fatter? It's possible I'm thinner, but I still feel abnormally large.
c) richer or poorer? Richer, thanks to getting a raise and doing some freelancing.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Writing, traveling, enjoying what I'm doing.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Playing stupid internet games, complaining, worrying, stressing out.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
With my parents in PA and Jorn's parents in MD.

21. Did you fall in love in 2005?
Still in love, thank you.

22. How many one-night stands?
None.

23. What was your favorite TV program?
Lost!! Buffy, Angel. America's Next Top Model. Firefly. I'm also liking Bones, and Law & Order: SVU.

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No.

25. What was the best book you read?
Um, there's going to be a whole post on that later on this month. I don't want to spoil it for you.

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
GUNTHER!!!

27. What did you want and get?
A computer, a digital camera, a new apartment, a conscientious landlord, fabulous black leather boots.

28. What did you want and not get?
An iRiver, but I think I'm going to buy one after the holidays.

29. What was your favorite film of this year?
Serenity, and Howl's Moving Castle.

30. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I spent time with my friends and went out dancing at Manray. (Is it depressing that I had to go look that up?) I turned 26.

31.What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Writing again, I think.

32. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005?
Last year, I wrote "Hey I can buy stuff now!!! Like at real stores!!!" This year was more of the same, except that this year involved black leather boots and therefore was cooler. Also, I purged all the stuff out of my closet that I don't wear. So I guess this year's theme was Wearing What I Love.

33. What kept you sane?
Jorn, mostly. And finishing getting settled into the new place, because if I had to keep unpacking and cleaning I would have flipped out.

34. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
The Weasley twins in the Harry Potter movies. Beyond that, I still love Johnny Depp. Can't think of anyone else.

35. What political issue stirred you the most?
Everything the Not-My-President did, all year long. (keeping last year's answer intact, because I can't choose just one horrible thing.)

36. Who did you miss?
My parents, The Five, Stina and Janel, Rhett. John Shelly, in a big way. Sarah B, when we were out of touch for a month or so this fall. Jorn, when he was in Philly and I was up here.

37. Who was the best new person you met?
Heather!! Did I meet anyone else? I can't remember. Heather, I love you, dude.

38. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005:
Keep going, for goodness sake, don't just stand there taking up space on the sidewalk.

39. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"Deep in the night, I'm looking for some fun. Deep in the night, I'm looking for some love."

newyears, the yearly
