Does anyone still use this thing?

I only see two actual people posting on my LJ friends page anymore.  I'm half tempted to get back to regular LJ updates, especially since MySpace is pretty much obsolete and Facebook has become a total monster these days.  (Theoretically, any non-protected entry here is supposed to get auto-imported into Facebook Notes anyway, though I'm not sure ( Read more... )

I have some ground rules for my Facebook posts which boil down to 1. avoid anger and 2. avoid angst. (And those can be boiled down to No Drama.) But FB is great for the instant gratification when I'm blue to start a thread of horrible jokes or a crazed movie line quoting session. I can also post and respond (to a limited extent) from my phone.

I don't use LJ nearly as much, but it's still best when I need to talk something out with a small group of friends and not worry/confuse my Dad or my ex's family.

It's also good for that historical perspective, to go back and see where you were a year ago... 5 years ago. FB can't give you that!

LJ most definitely gives more of a history. Its been around almost eleven years now, I've been on it five and a half now and I've appreciated that historical perspective too. A lot of it prompted the first three points I gave in this entry, me thinking about the people who have come and gone, and why, and how they affected who I am. I am a fairly long-term member of both MySpace and Facebook, having been on both long before they gained popularity, but still neither of them serves well as an archive.

I have used my LJ maybe four or five times in the last two years, but I think I'll go back to using it, more to share my real feelings, not that I feel I need to hide them per se, but mainly because there are certain issues I'd rather not discuss with my parents, my pastor, former college professors, assorted family members and family members of various exes, coworkers, bosses, etc. Facebook serves well to communicate trivial matters to the whole world, but LJ works much better when you really want someone to listen to you.

Hey ... it's Trish. I used to be a big LJ user myself back in the day, and I'm thinking about starting again too. =)

Hey...doubt you will respond/care....but I was looking at my OLD LJ, you know...xtangledechox, and saw something from you on a post....So, I came here, and saw this, and thought I'd just say hi....since you probably aren't talking about me in your #2 but that is what happened, and I don't even know why.

Anyway...if not, glad you seem to be happy. If so, cool.

Originally I wasn't thinking of you, but after reading through old comments and posts I did go back and edit that to say two people not just one. So here I am. I have a few things to do tonight before I go to sleep for work in the morning, but I'll open a way for you to be able to contact me tonight or tomorrow. Or if you still have my old digits, text it. If your number isn't the same, identify yourself.

Believe it or not, I do miss you.
