it's nonsense - which unfortunately parallels a lot of natural and political turbulence

but i think 2012 will simply mean that Dave Clark will no longer host the New Years Eve TV special

may people won't be able to handle that i guess

I think that some people just use end of the world hysteria to overcome their own mortality issues. The idea that the universe will keep on trucking just fine without them can be somewhat unsettling, plus end of the world stuff means that they can act as irresponsible as they want. It's a common theme, I'm a big space nerd and in 2003 it was planet X that was gonna kill us all. Let alone the Jupiter effect that was gonna kill us all in 1982. In short (cuz I have to get off break soon) people want to belive the world is gonna end, and they'll use any halfcocked rational they can get their hands on.
