Tonight I saw the re-release of The Passenger, a 1975 movie starring Jack Nicholson. It was wonderful, enigmatic, and beautifully filmed. The second-to-last shot ought to be famous--maybe it is, I dunno. Part way through I realized the lead actress was from Last Tango in Paris, validating a floating sense of familiarity I was feeling ( Read more... )

I've heard about this writer...there was even a reading about "illiberal democracy" in a philosophy class I took at Mudd. But yeah, I'm definitely interested in reading more about this stuff.

I really wanted to see Paradise Now at the filmfest here in Capetown but it was playing at night in a dodgy part of town. I've heard it's amazing.

I really want to see that, but it's already left Seattle and probably won't make it out to Madison. (I've been frustrated by the rather poor selection of movies there...if it's not mainstream Hollywood fare, it doesn't seem to show up until weeks after it's released elsewhere, if at all.)
