Glee has definitely rubbed me the wrong way in terms of portraying the gay community. Okay Ryan Murphy, we get it, you had a horrible life in high school because of the homophobia you had to deal with. But you are pushing it in your audience's face so much it's saying "because I'm gay, I should be treated with more compassion and respect then the rest of the world because MY hardships are the hardest to bear compared to others who deal with discrimination"
I don't really fault Ryan Murphy for bringing national awareness to these problems though. They need to be addressed. But, the complete and utter focus on homosexuality and same gender love is making it seem "special" compared to opposite gender love. When really, as you say here, it should be just about love between people and not if its gay or straight.
I think it will take a while for the transition to occur but shows like Glee, in my opinion, aren't really helping.
