An idea for an archive

Sooooo... a while back, someone at Sam's Cafe proposed this idea, and I've been thinking about it for a while.

Maybe something like imaginationstew or something like that. Not too twee, but fun.

That kids magazine I used to get years ago, was it called Cricket? The name didn't have anything to do with childrens' stories, but there you are.

Also, what if the source material for the fic is kind of adult? Like... are you going to take submissions from violent films if the fic is PG? Kind of a lot of things to think about.

imaginationstew or something similar is a great idea. And you're right- it doesn't have to have anything to do with the topic.

Also, what if the source material for the fic is kind of adult?
That's a really good question. I'm known for discovering source material through the fandom, and that wouldn't be good in this case.

And I suppose it would depend on why the source material's considered adult- there are some PG13 TV programs that are chock full of innuendo and bad language that I wouldn't want to include, and some movies rated for scary bits or violence that I wouldn't really mind, but some parents might. Like...okay, so I think Doctor Who fanfic would be great for something like this, but I wouldn't want A. watching Waters of Mars. He loves just about every Who episode I've let him see, but I keep some of the more terrifying ones away, and the ones that deal with issues that, at almost-seven, he's not capable of handling ( ... )

What a cool idea!
I have no thoughts at them moment, and I know nothing of coding, so I'm no help there, but moral support is here, and if you want to bounce ideas off of me, you're welcome to do that.

I like Fandom Elementary - I thought of Sherlock Holmes, but it may exclude middle schoolers, who may not want to be associated with elementary.

I don't know.

Good luck, and if you need help, just let me know.

True, and I imagine the 9-13 crowd would be the biggest readers. Hmmm.

Thanks for the offer of help; I'll surely need it later.

I like imaginationstew.

Also, if you like, you could advertise (once you're ready) on my parents' comm, hp_parentsplace. It's a very small group, but actually, they're all parents, so you could test out ideas and wording, and hear from different parents and their views if you're stuck, but it feels like you have a lot already going on in your head.

Good luck.

:D

Hi!

I generally figured something basic like kidsfanfic.com or something, but again, the real pain will be the coding and having a committed moderation team. If you are serious about this, I am more than willing to work with you on it.

Thanks! It'll take me a while to sort out logistics, but I'll let you know when I need volunteers. I figure if not before then by Christmas, at least, I'll have time to bite the bullet and code the monstrosity.
So, um, I'll post updates when I make progress! But that probably won't be anytime in the next few weeks.

My advice is to leave anything related to "kid" or "child" out of the domain name, so that the bots and pedophiles don't automatically pick it up in a Google search.

I kind of like Fandom Elementary.
