Do you believe that fate necessarily means that time is controlled? It could just be a convergence of events that can happen either sooner or later.

Free will, huh? So of course...I have to ask whether or not you believe in a Creator of your choice. If so, is your Creator ignorant to the future events of your life? Would that mean that life is ultimately meaningless...that we just "go with the flow" and have no purpose other than to simply exist?

Honestly, I'm curious.

i don't know if i believe in a deity of any sort who controls our every move, but i think i might believe in fate a little. like if something bad happens, i often try to brush it off saying "it was meant to happen, it'll be better in the long run". things like that. i do think that the decisions people make are important, though, but do we control the decisions we make, or do the things that happen to us control our decisions? hmm..

but do we control the decisions we make, or do the things that happen to us control our decisions?

I think that question can only be answered by each individual (for himself or herself), and even then....maybe not.

I think it may be a mixed bag, as I don't believe in full-on fate or free will. I think that we control our decisions to some extent, but maybe...if we're not paying enough attention, or not paying attention to the things we should, we get a little "nudge" to guide us in the appropriate direction.

Whatever that may be.

I'll give the following definition from Dictionary.com. There were 8 of them, but I think that the below definition is fairly succinct.

1: an event (or course of events) that will inevitably happen in the future.

My (good-natured) flip response to your flip response is:

Not if one believes in "rapture", or rather...not if "rapture", is at the very least, a possibility.

...

;D

No, you don't die with "rapture". According to Christianity (I'll leave it as vague and simple as that - it's discussed in the Bible, but honestly...who knows when it was actually added to the canonized version?) "rapture", in the Biblical sense is being immediately spirited away (no pun intended) to Heaven without dying ( ... )
