Current high gas prices are NOT a result of price gouging!! We have recently had 2 massive hurricanes in the area where almost all of our domestic oil is refined. The oil from this area makes up 10% of the oil that we as a country use. Basic economics anyone? When supply decreases, and demand stays the same or increases, price also increases. ( Read more... )

Okay okay I shouldn't be snooping around other peoples' LJs but I'm sorry, I gotta say the US imports most of its oil. Probably that "10% of oil that we as a country use" is the only part that comes from a national source. And no, we shouldn't drill Alaska.

That is so full of shit - New Orleans was a port city, not a refinery, there was no reason they couldn't ship into another port.
