The Wastes

Is it just me or does LiveJournal feel like it's become a bit of an empty wasteland? I know I don't update very often but I used to, at the very least, check my friends page every day but I haven't even been doing that lately. Seems like everyone has moved on to Twittering and Facebooking... including me, I'm guilty of both. There's something ( Read more... )

I fugging hate Twitter, and both it and FaceBook are blocked by my work's spam filters, so LJ is all I got. But I agree, it seems to get sparser every day.

Another point i missed in my post below. Twitter and facebook are both blocked from work. That means to update them I'm limited to just txting from my phone.

I'm guilty of the same. Not updating LJ as often as I should. I have it set up so I can update my twitter, facebook, and even myspace at the same time from one place. I do a lot more talking there than I have done here lately. Having said all that I've been trying to pay a little more attention to my journal here, and I'm even thinking of setting up a journal over at Dreamwidth b/c it seems like Dreamwidth is what LJ was supposed to be. My biggest problem with all that is my older family members get confused by all the new websites and stuff. It took me years to get them used to my livejournal. I shudder at the thought of switching them over to another website...

Just because the masses jump into the crevasses known at Facebook and Twitter, doesn't mean those of us with thinking ability have to as well!
j/k really, I do know that some of my friends have currently abandoned the Twits and FB's to come back to the ol' LJ.

And LJText posting has definitely increased my activity here.

I hate Twitter. I always want to respond, but I never feel like I can have any useful conversation in an exchange of replies less than 140 characters.

I've found Facebook very addicting, but I still check LJ for all my friends. Many of whom are on FB, but they write better, wordier updates on LJ. Sometimes, I want to know more about people than "I'm heading to the gym." "The meeting today sucked." etc.

I think I like Twitter and Facebook because they keep me concise. I have a tendency to waste too much time "composing" my LJ posts and god do I ramble on sometimes. Twitter and FB force me to keep it short and sweet.

While there can be wit in brevity, not all brevity is wit.
