I've been really into Haruki Murakami lately. My favorites by him are "Kafka on the Shore", "The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle", and "Hard-Boiled Wonderland and The End of the World".
Also good: Margaret Atwood - The Blind Assassin Jeanette Winterson - Written on the Body
These are all books I wouldn't have thought to pick up on my own. Yay for new stuff! Perhaps you should let me borrow one, i've already read my way through all the favorites on my bookshelf and am craving something new.
Here are a few, I'm sure you've already seen some of themext_102078October 15 2009, 01:54:15 UTC
The Secret History by Donna Tartt is an amazing first book from this author.
Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom by Cory Doctorow is a quick & fun read.
The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett runs quite a bit longer but it's engaging.
Fifth Business by Robertson Davies, this is the first of the Deptford trilogy and I happened upon it by accident but it was wonderful (the second book is a bit slow though).
The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde, is the start of the Thursday Next series. This series is my absolute favorite so I saved it for last.

Ha! The Deptford trilogy! That was the one thing I had to read in high school that I really enjoyed. It's well worth slogging through the second to get to the third, World of Wonders.
