Is this a good sign?

I don't know whether this is a really excellent sign for the general election or if that much really changes between now and November that this doesn't mean anything.

Looking at the results of Super Tuesday, it seems like more people are voting for the Democratic candidates than the Republican ones - both in "swing" states and even in ( Read more... )

The Dems have been getting far better turnout pretty much everywhere this season...from what I've read, it seems like it's at least in part a product of people being freakishly excited about one of the Democrats, whereas Republicans have been consistently underwhelmed by their choices. And primary turnout is, as far as I know, almost if not always lower than general turnout. I think it has to be, as independents can't vote in a lot of primaries; plus, primaries are at weird times where as regular general elections are always that Tuesday in November, so people are a little more aware.

Hi, by the way. Are you in Ecuador yet? How are things?

Hmm. So overall, do you think this is a good sign or a bad sign? Or just totally inconclusive? It seems to me even with the primary turnout being lower than the general, it's not like all the independents will vote Republican. We can probably expect those who didn't vote yesterday to be similarly divided, no?

No, not in Ecuador yet - I'm leaving on Saturday. How's Denmark?

I think it's just inconclusive. And yes to the last question in the first paragraph. Of course, that also depends on who the nominees are-- both McCain and Obama are really good at getting independents, but I've heard that Clinton's not bad at it either, despite appearances. The only independents that, say, Huckabee will get are the ones who are way too far right to consider voting Democrat anyway. And Romney just pretty much sucks. What do you think?

Denmark is pretty much awesome-- check my journal, I've been pretty good about the blogging. Are you doing any kind of email loop or something? Keep me on your list!

Good points about Colorado. Even still, though - Clinton & Obama got about twice as many votes as the Republicans. That's not insignificant. Do you think the independents and the snowed-in can really offset that big a difference?

Yeah, sorry we didn't get a chance to say good-bye! It was really nice to see you too though. Have a great semester :)

First of all, DO realize that there are a good deal more registered Democrats than Republicans. Neither party (as we know) votes party lines in national elections, but in the primaries, turnout bears some relationship to registration, depending, of course, on individual states' rules ( ... )

You still check this journal? I'm flattered!

Interesting points. If I may be so bold as to ask, who do you favor this season? (Besides Guiliani, of course.)

Have a great time in Spain! I'm envious. Whereabouts are you headed?
