Sep 15, 2006 08:24

Warning, til further notice, bagged washed spinach = E-coli. This dire warning brought to you courtesy of my Mother, who knows it's one of the staples of my diet. I checked it out on google and she wasn't just exaggerating.

Please throw away any bagged spinach you have been enjoying or hoping to enjoy. and don't get any more til the scare is

It's our main vegetable around here, the lazy persons health salad, in a bowl, with no dressing or anything. Just sort of a "perscription vegetable" if you know what I mean. I have had it the last three nights! Gak! I will lay off it for a while.

I won't bore you with details of my restaurant prep years, that made bagged spinach like a gift of the gods!

If it wasn't me that was going to have to get the grit out every time, for someone that can NEVER properly appreciate the sore footed push that entails after a hard day....SIGH!

So in brief, Yes, I know how to properly wash spinach, but I don't think the labor is properly apprieicated, and I do enough dirty work in this set up!

Thanks for this, I was going to have some for lunch. Scary! There was another scare awhile back with bagged salad. I think I\ll stay away from bagged greens from now on.

I really have come around to liking and depending on bagged spinach. But what the heck.

I guess carrots and peas are back in style now.

E-coli, that dreaded diarreah-to-death bacteria. The bagged spinach leaves come from many different growers, and the bacteria fountain hasn't been located yet, so all bagged spinach is suspect.
