Overall I was very much into this episode, from start to finish. There had been a huge build-up, and while I didn't read the spoilers I knew what the previews said the show would be about. I was hesitant, but clung to my trust in Kripke. And I was not let down!
From the get-go I was just waiting for the kid to slip, for there to be something, anything, that would prove this wrong. John didn't have another kid. Right?
I loved the brotherly dynamic on this one. We finally got a back and forth dialogue between Sam and Dean that gave us a hint of what we've been thinking they were thinking (um, yeah ... anyway). I find it debatable that Dean only just realized that Sam was becoming more like his father - I mean, helloooooo, it's been kind of obvious for a while. Or maybe that's just me.
I'm not gonna go all meta and thoroughly analyze this episode - I'll leave that for folks who do a much better job at such things. But two things just kind of broke me here ... the first? Was finding out the that the brother -who they had just found out about, mind you - was real and dead before they could have even saved him. Oh the angst! And the second thing? Even though I find it hard to beleive that Dean is just now coming to realize that Sam is turning into another John (and was always too like him to begin with), the expression on Dean's face as he said that last line ...
Heartbreaking. Simply heartbreaking.
