Spoiler TV reports that
the CW has bumped both Smallville and Supernatural this Friday (link contains episode descriptions, so don't click if you don't want spoilers). This week's Vampire Diaries episode is going to re-air in place of Smallville, and this week's Nikita episode will re-air in place of Supernatural.
Y'know, if I were the CW, and I had a show that had stayed afloat for six years due, primarily, to fan dedication and fan promotion, and had just won a fan-voted TV Guide cover, I would also wait until about 24 hours before a new episode to bump it off the schedule and replace it with another show that hasn't even been airing for a full season.
Seriously.
I mean, I know not everyone agrees with the direction of this season or whatever, but I hope everyone can agree that this programming switch/treatment of Supernatural (and Smallville) is crap! Even airing reruns of Smallville and Supernatural tomorrow would've been better than replacing the slots with other shows!
We can expect the next new Supernatural episode on February 4th. Of course, I should probably wait until February 3rd to confirm that.
ETA:
Zap2it updates with the CW's explanation for the schedule switch: "The CW hopes that re-airing the "The Vampire Diaries" in a timeslot that doesn't compete with ratings juggernaut "American Idol" will help to boost total viewership."
That doesn't even make sense. TVD already has higher ratings than Supernatural (hello, vampire craze?!), and the CW never did stuff like this for the YEARS where Supernatural aired on Thursday nights. FAIL.
