Show related? I'd rather whine about fic not mind talking about the pilot agian since I've now rewatched it -- theories about the dark figure standing over Sam's crib? Doppelganger? What Mary saw?

Within the show, I'm kind of totally baffled about what it/he was or where they are going with it...i.e. yes, it has something to do with Sam, hence Jess. And how much fo that palys into Sam being subconsciously aware that really, even in hsi own family, he's really like the farthest thing form normal on the planet.

My theory is that they're setting up conflict between the brothers. There's no basis for this, it's just a feeling I get. Sam keeps getting a little darker and angrier with each episode, and Dean is getting more and more established as the knight-in-tarnished-armor.

i don't know that i notice sam getting darker and angrier so much as just more confused. i know a lot of people are making that assumption based on 'asylum' but my theory on that ep was just that they were making him angry!sam so dean didn't notice so much when he was possessed. but that again, is just my theory and it could just be poor plot cohesion. while i don't think that it's a bad theory, and i could understand them doing it for dramatic reasons, i find it hard to buy that sam and dean would be pulled apart since dean tried so hard to get sam back into the game. i dunno.

i know you said these are just feelings you have, i'm not disagreeing. this show drives me crazy. it's like you have to make up so much of it yourself because of how little they give you on the show y'know? *g*

You're right, Sam's anger could have been a one episode phenomenon. It would have been nice to see the next episode to know if there were any long-lasting repercussions. ;)

I suppose they could make the search for Dad the main long arc of the show, but personally I think that's a little weak. They're giving us little tastes of it but nothing that says Dad is in immediate harm. There's a mystery there, but it doesn't seem all that deep.

The only other long series arc I see is the hunt for whatever killed Jess/Mom, and I don't see the writers doing -anything- with that story line so far. Maybe they didn't want to tackle it till they knew there would be enough shows to do it justice?
