Okay, the big news today is that Disney is buying Marvel. Check it.While it's still early, and the formal details haven't been released, people are freaking out. In the past ten minutes alone, I have heard and read that No Good Can Come of this. Complaints range from the comics will suddenly stop swearing, that Mickey will suddenly become a ( Read more... )

As another female comic-book fan I've been forming a few rough opinions here and there on these matters. I haven't done the research I plan to do yet, but mainly because I like these things to wait out a little before doing so. In a couple days my ideas will be more solidly formed. Excellent points on the marketing.

I didn't know that much time was cut from Sprited away! I was under the impression that the contract stipulated things could only be added, not changed. *cue More You Know Shooting Star*

I'm still not convinced they'll "clean up" the comics at all, but its definitely something to watch out for.

I would love to see comic books more accessible, but worry about the death of the local comic shop.

Disney wanted Harry Potter, and Universal sort of swooped in and stole it. Could stealing the Marvel rights be some sort of revenge?

It was my understanding that Disney wanted too much control over Harry Potter, and that Jo and WB didn't want to go in their direction. I could be wrong, of course.

I've heard a few different things, including that, but also the inverse:Jo wanted to see things in the park that Disney thought weren't practical and wouldn't deal without them.
I have also heard that Universal simply impressed her more, including a version where they knew she was coming and did the park to the nines, while Disney never had such an opportunitiy.

Don't know what's true, but it isn't unlike Disney to keep such a thing in mind.
