I got a job!

Perhaps not the world's greatest job, but I am happy to be getting started. I will be working at Macy's doing "processing" which I think involves mostly unloading trucks. I have to wear clothes that match dress-code (so I'll have to buy at least two shirts because I currently have no appropriate shirts but two appropriate pairs of pants) but not ( Read more... )

Hey congrats! It is a start, anyway. And you never know... like I said, I survived two massive rounds of lay-offs in my Nintendo warehouse because I was good at what I did.

I'm in WW until Monday, when I need to go back to Seattle (I've been away nearly five weeks now, just like last summer.) Then I'll have to start doing the job-hunting thing until I can get back into school... *sigh* I am still hoping to go back to Nintendo but it looks like they may not be hiring at the Redmond facility right now. Poo.

Well, I'll try to be as good at my job as I can be and hope that will lead somewhere. The thing is, I figure writing "laid off" on future applications doesn't look as bad as "fired for stealing stuff" or something like that. :)

Good luck in your job hunt! I hear things are better in Seattle than in Oregon, so maybe you won't have to search too long!

Yikes! That is truly depressing. Graduate students have always been brutally exploited, at least that is my understanding. I just didn't realize unemployment benefits were so much better!

I'll do what I can! Have you thought about applying to retail stores? I'm not sure if it's your thing.

If you don't mind working in a coffee shop, my guess is there are plenty of options available! In general I've heard good things about job searches in the Seattle area. It's mostly just Portland that seems to be totally fucked.
