I've been there with the moving and everything. I've only worked for three companies in the last couple of years, but I've transfered so many times that my resume looks crazy.
I think it's all a matter of picking and choosing what you want to show employers. None of the places I've worked for have actually called previous references either.
Gotta agree with arf. Give them the ones that you think that they might want to see (ex: ones that show some connection to that job). Also, cherry pick the ones you can describe the most and the ones you've work the longest.
Listing jobs that list all of 4 hours or 1 week actually can do you harm on your job hunting. For instance, if I was looking at that sort of resume or listing, my first impression is that you can't hold a job or get fired often and are thus a bad risk. That first impression is what makes and breaks you.
I know, I wouldn't actually put those on there. I was just going off on a rant and pointing out how much crap I've done. I will be picky and careful. I wish skills resumes were more important than the chronological resumes. le sigh.
I'd have to completely agree with the above statements. I only have the (excellent) job I have right now because my previous employer gave me such a high recommendation. Unfortunately without experience directly related to the job (and even sometimes with that) they won't hire you without a good recommendation. I learned this one the hard way and had to build "recommendations" up from the beginning rather then even concentrating on experience or education. It's sorta sad the way it works.
*hug hug* You should feel free to complain all you want! God knows I do. ^^''''
I know it'll work out for you if you keep trying. I know how it can be tough, especially during this market, but keep your chin up and keep trying. I didn't think I was qualified for the job I have now, but I've managed to maintain it and all. Keep looking and don't worry about being underqualified. Apply anyway!
