So I am finally at college. Yeah, it's pretty cool. This week-long orientation week needs to be done though. I want my classes to start. I'm taking Latin, which I'm pretty excited about. I'm also in this polisci course about the Arab-Israeli conflict, which sounds like it's going to be fantastic. And I'm taking choir and my freshman writing seminar ( Read more... )

quarter system. We have three quarters of class then summer quarter. Each quarter is only 10 weeks and 3 classes is a full load. I have all of Dec. off, another quarter, then a week of spring break, then we go till the beginning of June.

Latin est malus. Let me know if you use Wheelock's latin so I can give you heads up to some fun sentences (there are way too many about farmers...)

Your poli sci course in one sentence: Arabs and Israelis have fought for centuries and there is nothing that we can do to make them stop (save killing one side.) Sure there's more to it but that's basically all you need to know.

I am using Wheelock's Latain. It's sitting on my shelf as I type.

There's so much interesting political stuff going on there, though. Maybe there isn't anything we can do to stop them fighting, but that shouldn't stop us from trying, or at least trying to come to a deeper understanding of their culture and history.

Hahaha...I pity you. He has a thing for farmers in the first few chapters. I like the one that literally translates "The dangers of war are not small but your fatherland will summon you and the farmers will help." And then he moves into his philosophical phase with such classics as, "Human life is torture."

Interesting? Perhaps. But culture and history belong more in the history department and, ideolist though I may be, there are causes much more worthy of attentions, not because said conflict is not important, but because we, as America, can actually do something about other issues.
