I have had happen the very reason why I will not be a nurse. Tuesday I was on a field shift in Old Lycoming when we got a call for a 44 year old male with breathing difficulty. The paramedic asked if I wanted to bet lunch that he was a smoker, but I wasn't willing to sacrifice five bucks on something that was that likely to be true. Well, it wasn't ( Read more... )

A teacher I am friends with at work just lost her husband to diabetes and kidney failure. He was on dialysis and hanging in there, but developed a fever and died two days later. He was 50. It was horrible. He died at home, but I agree with you, nurses are special people, I couldn't do what they do. Although I probably couldn't do what you do either, seeing as I dropped out of my EMT training when push came to shove and we had to start working on actual people. So kudos to you, too!
