Kissing In A Tree 1.5...

Hee. Hee. I challenge you all to eat gummy worms while reading this fic. Because I feel five, and I did it myself yesterday. :)

The girl was really getting on Lex’s nerves. She’d cornered him with offers of being welcome and friendship, but Lex started to strongly suspect she was only after his gummy worms.

“...my dead parents...”

Lana said that a lot.

She batted her eyelashes, but Lex wasn’t having any of it. In fact, he was thinking about another pair of prettier eyes he hoped to see.

“Look that way! A giant pancake!”

And she did.

“What a dimwit.”

Lex strode away as fast as he could when the bell rang for lunch.

He hid by the shade of the buildings, not wanting to be seen by the girl or any other gawker that thought staring at him had the entertainment value of throwing sticks in a mud hole.

“Lex! Over here!” Clark waved by the picnic table.

“You have to eat with the rest of the group, Alexander.” Mrs. Sanderson shook her finger.

Somehow, Clark’s smile canceled out all the other frowns he received as he came closer.

“Sit by me!” Clark patted the empty space next to him.

“Does he have to?”

“YES PETE HE DOES!”

“Clark, keep your voice down.” Mrs. Sanderson motioned for Lex to sit.

“Sorry. Hi, Lex! I got my mommy to make cookies for us to share!”

Lex found himself smiling.

“I brought the gummy worms.”

“Big deal.” The boy on the other side of Clark said.

“Try them.” Lex gave a few to the raven haired boy.

“They don’t wiggle.” He said this as if it was a strike against them.

“They’re great, I swear by Caesar’s ghost.”

Clark laughed.

“You’re funny.”

He picked one up and bit.

“Yummy gummy!”

Clark started talking about how much he didn’t like math and couldn’t wait for his afternoon cartoons after helping with chores. Lex was content to listen.

He inhaled his lunch before Lex’s very eyes.

“Where does it all go?”

“Here, these are mommy’s super special chocolate chip cookies.”

“I don’t like cookies much.”

“I’ll eat them, Mr. Snooty Pants.” The other boy grinned and reached.

“No Pete, mommy said they’re just for Lex.” Clark took the plate away.

“If he’s too much of a dummy to say no to your mom’s cooking...”

“If you’re nice, you can have one.”

“Must. Have. Cookie. Give!”

“Be nice!”

“If he stops being a dummy about everything.” Pete snorted.

“Your mom’s a good cook?”

“Mrs. Kent has won blue ribbons for her pies. And she makes the best cookies ever!” Pete glared.

“Please try, Lex. I helped make them.” Any resistance he had melted in the assault of Clark’s face pleading.

A nibble turned him into a believer.

“I love them.” He said in realization.

Clark reddened and mumbled.

“Mommy said baking’s from the heart.”

They stared for moments at each other, and Lex started to feel strange.

“Can I have some gummy worms?” Pete asked, breaking the tension.

Lex shook his head to clear it.

And thought.

Clark made him dizzy.

He decided he needed to do something to chase that feeling away.

“You can have the rest of the bag. If...” He whispered sneakily.

Lex nodded to himself. Two birds with one stone. He was brilliant!

“If what?”

“You stick a live worm in Lana’s hair.”
