“Now class, who can tell me what the capital of Nebraska is?”

Only one hand shot up.

The one hand that always shot up.

Lex’s hand.

“Lincoln, Mrs. Sanderson.”

“That’s right. Very good, Lex.”

He could feel the envy of his other classmates.

“What a suck up.” He heard another boy say.

But he saw Clark smiling at him as usual, and decided not to get revenge.

Someone passed him a note.

It had a giant red and blue smiley face on it.

Dear Lex,

You are so smart. Do you wanna come to my house and study? I’ll get my mom to make more cookies, even if I have to clean out the chicken coop. So please, please, pretty please with ice cream and fudge and sprinkles on top pretty please come. Please?

Clark

The boy literally bounced up in his seat as he watched Lex.

Lex nodded subtly, not wanting to get him in trouble again.

“YAY!” Clark raised his arms in victory.

“Mr. Kent, do I have to send you to time out again?”

“Sorry, teacher.”

Clark reversed himself and hunched shyly in his desk.

He was a weirdo alright.

~~~
Clark wanted to keep jumping up and down even after Mrs. Sanderson said he couldn’t.
Having the courage to ask Lex out was harder than he thought. But Lex had said yes!
He heard older kids saying kissing was like magic.
He resolved to ask Pete what music was best for ‘making magic’ with Lex.
“Clark, what is capitol of Kansas?”
Lex.
“Clark?”
“Kisses...”
“Mr. Kent!” Mrs. Sanderson was not amused.
“Soon...”
