Bussy busy puddin pie, Clex a'kissed I thought I'd cry!
~~~~~
Pete was pumped for action!
He had watched Erica from the corner of his eye for all of the math lesson, and kept drawing hearts instead of the double digit subtraction Mrs. Sanderson was expecting. He did not think too much of it, because he doubted any of the other restless children were really paying attention. And with the way Clark appeared to want to road runner over to Lex, his reaction was pretty calm.
Erica had a pretty ribbon of pink in her hair. She loved ribbons. And she also wore a dress with cherry red flowers and ribbons, so his gift would be liked.
She had an easier time following the teacher.
“Six!”
“Correct, Erica.” Mrs. Sanderson agreed her answer.
I wish I was genius like egg head at math, so I could tutor her. Then she’d have to learn by counting kissing with me!
Pete went and checked his paper sack where he’d hidden his perfect girl present. Still there.
“Mr. Ross, what is five plus eight?” Her spectacles made her dark eyes seem beady.
Pete stalled.
“I plead the fifth!”
“Mr. Ross, that is not an answer.”
“My mommy says defendants use it all the time and there’s nothing prosacuttors can to ‘bout it!”
The rest of the class laughed.
Why couldn’t he get grades for being funny? Then he’d never have to study.
“Ms. Lang, could you please answer the question?” Mrs. Sanderson turned to the girl Pete hated the most.
Lana Lang had chosen to dress in pink, but it made him hate the color. She acted all innocent and pretty princess like, but she could act worse than Roy if you made her mad.
“Of course. I studied for many hours, teacher.” Lana bobbed her head.
Pete resisted the urge to empty pencil sharpenings from the holder over her stupid dress.
“The answer is eight, teacher.”
“Perfect try, Ms. Lang.” Mrs. Sanderson praised her.
Erica’s a bazillion times better than her! Mrs. Sanderson should get new glasses. Ones not so ugly would make her look less like a beetle.
Then Mrs. Sanderson tried to sneak attack Lex.
“Mr. Luthor, what is five times eight?”
“Forty.” Lex said while staring at Clark.
Clark was itching to get out of his desk.
“You need to keep your eyes up here to learn.”
“Not really.” Lex was not scared by Mrs. Sanderson.
Pete wondered what could be scarier than her that Lex wasn’t nervous. Other than Lana talking, of course.
“4,851 plus 10,574.” She wrote on the chalkboard.
“15,425.” Lex winked at Clark.
Clark just stopped himself from jumping out of his desk.
Mrs. Sanderson threw her hands up.
“One million six hundred and forty eight thousand four hundred, divided by twenty two point two.”
Lex never took his eyes off of his true interest. And took a moment to blow a kiss of his own.
“Seventy four thousand two hundred and fifty two point two five two five.”
Erica had a calculator and checked the numbers. He was correct.
Clark slipped out of his seat and onto the floor.
“Very good, Mr. Luthor. But that doesn’t mean you can slack off.” Mrs. Sanderson picked another victim.
“I can still read The Wall Street Journal during story hour, right?”
Mrs. Sanderson sighed heavily.
Pete scribbled down the math homework assignment when the bell rang.
He picked up his precious package and walked fearfully to the playground with the rest of the students, seeing glimpses of his fair crush with her cute ribbons through the numbers of his class.
Once at the picnic table, she started sharing cupcakes she had brought for the rest of the class. They had red smiley hearts on them with lots of whipped frosting.
Everyone was trading gifts.
Clark and Lex walked joyfully hand in hand to the far corner of the playground after a huge hug.
One strange girl who wore all black was keeping them away from the far walled corner with the huge leaved oak tree. She paced and would scowl at any boy who tried to give her a gift. Another pretty, but no less tough girl with brown hair kept very still by one picnic table. She seemed to be watching one person very closely and followed them around when they moved. It turned out to be Lana of all people.
But now Erica was making her way towards Pete!
Pete made ready his flowers and took them ever so carefully out of the bag.
They sparkled so finely in the sunlight.
Pete practiced in his mind what he was going to say.
Erica, you are my sweet foxy love. No. That’s dumb. Um..Erica, you are a valentine like chocolate and I’m hungry? No. You’re cooler than then basketball! No. Er, Erica I like you like a valentine, but do we have to kiss? Have you been checked for cooties? Do you like to shoot the hoops? That won’t work. That’s not romantic at all! I shoulda watched more soaps than the Lakers games.
Erica finally reached Pete.
This was the moment of truth!
“Hi. Would you like a cupcake?” Erica smiled.
Pete-an-ator was in the house!
“H-h-hi.” He squeaked.
Pete felt the gift in his hands. He started to lift them.
Then turned and ran in the opposite direction.
He tossed those shining flowers and kept running till he got to the boy’s bathroom.
He hid there until class started again.
~~~
Lana smelled the most beautiful and delicate flowers again.
One of her shyest admirers had tossed them at her and run away.
How sweet of him!
She must find out who it was.
A buzzing sound annoyed her ear and she shooed it away.
So many boys chased her, but this one did something very different.
The flowers were so real and soft, and they had a perfume that smelled just like a rose.
So close to a rose, that these insects were getting pesky.
Whoever it was, it had to be someone great.
Maybe even someone worthy enough to date her!
“Quit it, I’m trying to think!” Lana shooed another bug and boy away from her, only to find out that the bug was not going to take no for an answer.
It turned out to be a large bumblebee that stung her.
“Ouch!” Her cheek started to get swollen painful very fast.
She tried to ignore it, walking back to the table, but Mrs. Sanderson noticed right away.
“Lana dear, go to the nurse right away!”
“Whatever for?” This was her day, everyone had come to flatter her, and she wasn’t going to let a bug spoil it!
“Good heavens, girl! You look like a chipmunk!”
