Crappy week the last. Slammed, bad sleep, bad weather, and my friend R. got rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. Her appendix was removed and she's okay, but weak.
Hoping this week is a little better.
Two weeks till vacation the big Kahuna!

Clark swung his legs back and forth in impatience. He had gotten stuck at forty five and was now worried that Lex would not come back because he’d forgotten all about his boyfriend. Then Clark would be very lonely indeed and not even the lure of the monkey bars could cheer him up.
While on top of the structure, he noted Lex’s guards in various places around the jumble gym. None of the other children ventured close to go near where he was. They would scamper around, and pause, until one of the guards took a step forward. Then they’d go off to one of the other areas to play instead.
Clark now realized that was the reason none of the other children were on any of the structures around him.
He didn’t think that was very fair. Mother always said you had to wait your turn, but that everyone got to go or play where they wanted.
He’d have to tell Lex that his guards were being mean.
Lex would take care of it right away.
“Clark, fair Clark!” Lex called up to him.
“Lex! Come on up!” He waved.
“But soft! what light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and Clark is the sun!” Lex stood and said grandly before climbing.
“You’re speaking silly again.” Clark smiled.
“I’m happy.”
“Good.” Lex needed more happy.
“Lex?”
“Yes?”
“Some of your guards are being mean. They won’t let anyone play here.”
“Really? I had no idea.” Lex shifted awkwardly.
“Can you tell Hope and Mercy? They’ll tell them what is four!” He said determinedly.
Lex took his hand.
“Sure. Don’t worry about it.”
Clark smiled even bigger.
“If it’s you, I won’t.”
Lex always kept his promises.

Pete always had to watch it now when Clark wasn’t around. As soon as he went off to play with Lex, his guards drifted off with him.
And that’s when Lana would start in his direction.
He had tried ignoring her but that did not work. She’d just bob her head and giggle a lot when he told to go to Tim BuckTooth. Then she would turn her look on him and he knew he had to escape fast.
Other boys called him lucky, but Pete did not want anything to do with the girl he found annoying.
He needed a distraction.
“Look, an angry squirrel is on the loose!” He pointed behind her.
She turned to look.
Then Pete ran for it.
But today she was being especially persistant, even to the point of walking over his loudest pleas, and walked while he ran in an attempt to put some distance.
He ran past a cluster of trees and squatted behind them.
But she spotted him.
So he ran to a pile of high grass, and tore out some to put over himself. His mom was gonna be real sore over getting one of his nice shirts green, but this was an emergency.
“Oh Pete, I can see you!” She song sang.
“Chirp! Chirp! No Pete here, just a cricket! Chirp! Chirp!”
While she was momentarily confused, Pete darted out and dodged her open arms, running for the far wall of the school building.
“There’s no hiding from me.” She called sweetly.
Lana would catch him this time.
He was doomed for all eternity.
“Quick, over here!” A voice called.
Pete galloped to the other side by the gym.
It was Erica.
Before he could stutter a word, he was led to a hiding place. It was a small space he’d never noticed before, between the school main building and the gym. But just big enough where he could crouch.
“How-”
“Shhh!” Keep your lips zipped!” She turned away, picking up a jump rope and started skipping.
Lana came around the corner, eyes darting, but to her dismay and Pete’s relief, she could not see him.
“Did you see a boy come this way, ah, ‘Rica?” She asked rudely.
“It’s Erica.” The dark skinned girl skipped nonchalantly.
“Sorry, Erica. Did you see Pete come this way?”
“Pete who?”
“He’s in our class. Pete Ross.”
“Oh. So that’s who.” She hopped on one foot.
“Now have you seen him?”
“Nope. Now go away, Pinky le Pew!”
“Just for that, you can forget about ever becoming a member of the Lana Lang fan club!” Lana stomped off.
“Well, wah, wah, boo hoo! I’m crying like a baby!” Erica yelled after her.
She waited until the other girl was out of sight before speaking.
“She’s creeped off. You’ll be all right now.” She laughed.
Pete squeezed out and took a big sigh of relief.
“Thanks Erica, you saved my bacon!”
“She was gonna fry you up and have you for breakfast with hash browns. Couldn’t let that happen.”
Pete dusted himself off.
“I owe you one.”
He looked at her and saw she was rubbing her hands together.
“Better think of something fun then.”
Pete gulped.
“Nothing pink .”
He felt a little better hearing that.
It wasn’t until Pete roamed off with the class bell that he realized that he had talked to his crush without melting into the ground. And she liked him.
But how was he gonna get her kisses minus the cooties?
“Doctor Psycho is on the case!”
