St. Thomas would say that was because all ephemeral love on earth is merely a gesture of the eternal love of God; at the same time, to talk of how God loves the world displays fully how passing our own love for each other is. For Thomas, all love on earth finds its final origin and destination in God, who is love. Sucka.
