I waited to watch this and what motivated me was that it is not a movie about Joy Division, it's a movie about Ian Curtis the person. Sort of, it's kind of biased though. They should have talked to Annik a lot more.
It's good. It's not omg brilliant but it's quite a film. It's so calm and serene. You really got to see the arsehole in Ian Curtis a little. I'm just imagining what it would have been like if Shane Meadows shot it. He's my favourite British director.
It is swell. A little biased. Ian's arseholish side comes through a little with the way he treats Debbie.
Nick Cave's exhibition opened yesterday at Melbourne's Art Centre. They're showing a whole bunch of his stuff. It's sort of sad he no longer calls Australia home. No matter where I end up living in the future, Australia will always be my home.
Oh I'll have to go see the NC exh. - friday prolly. Saw control - was good, I can't stop thinking about it - it looked fantastic, you could really tell it was made by a stills photographer. Did think Ian came off looking like a patriarchal arse ('let's have a baby!') self-indulgent bla bla bla. Good to see a movie which demonstrates how a lot of these male 'geniuses' are granted that privelege partly because they do not have the responsibilities of women (okay Virginia shut up now!). My ma is reading the book it's based on so hopefully i can borrow it off her after she finishes! Anyway 'control' = 'good'
I'm so glad he came off the way he did. I am glad I hated him sometimes. Like, fuck, break it off. You're fucking married. Choose one of them, don't be all like, "Fuck me, I'm so tortured. This decision is depressing me." I love Ian. I always loved him but I am glad I don't kiss his non-living arse and felt the emotions I did.
The suicide scene was lame though. It was going great until that part.
