I was rummaging through an encyclopedia and found this gem of a quote:

Nov 21, 2007 23:06

"People who want to become authors are unlikely to succeed by going into Journalism, which would absorb most of their mental energies. People determined to become creative writers often take a job in an entirely different field. They earn enough money to live on, and write in their spare time until they have established themselves as authors."

Yeah. It's a British encyclopaedia from the 70's, or maybe it's the 60's, I'm not too sure. It's my dad's. They had a huge section on careers and I found this written in there.

Sadly, they had nothing good to say about photography as a career :/

But the way this is written is so... opinionated. Kind of. It may well be true, but the way it's written wouldn't really stand up on Wikipedia, is all.

I don't trust Wikipedia.

The quote was written about a career as an author, not a journalist. I've had a lot of English teachers tell me that it is pointless for me to go into a journalism degree if I want to be an author. They said creative writing would be more appropriate. I'm thinking of a creative writing degree sometime in the next few years.
