1. What did you do in 2010 that you'd never done before?
Applied to graduate school. Drove three quarters of the way across the state. Went wine tasting. Take your pick!
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I'm not a huge fan of making them, but I may outline a few this year.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nah, just a girl from my college town that has no business raising a child.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Yes, my grandfather.
5. What countries did you visit?
England!
6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
Some sort of plan for my future.
7. What date from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
May 8 - Graduated from college.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Graduating college? Yep, that's it.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Not finding a new job. I really need one to get out of this rut I'm in.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nothing out of the ordinary.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
I would say my Canon Digital Rebel XSi, but really it was the 50mm f/1.4 lens I bought for it. :P
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Hmm, I don't have answers for these either. Maybe my mom for always kicking ass and taking names.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
The GOP? Lol, I don't know.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Camera supplies, trip to England, and grad school application fees.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
My camera! I new that buying it was an awesome idea, and I don't regret a cent of the money I've sunk into it so far.
16. What song will always remind you of 2010?
Phantom Planet - California (I first heard it in England and it kind of defined the summer for me.)
The Punch Brothers - You Are (Reminds me of this past autumn.)
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Happier, I think, because I'm living closer to friends and I'm less stressed about what the future holds.
ii. thinner or fatter? Eh, I always chub up a little bit in the winter.
iii. richer or poorer? Hard to say. Probably a little poorer.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Exercising. (Totally with you on this one)
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
I wish I'd wasted less time. I'm so awesome at wasting time. (As you've probably noticed)
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Doing Christmas with Mom on Thursday, Christmas with Dad, Kelli, and Dakota on Christmas night, and having family Christmas on New Years Day. I'll be working for most of the actual holiday, though.
21. Did you fall in love in 2010?
Thankfully, no.
22. How many one-night stands?
It was more like a three-week stand...
23. What was your favourite TV program?
BIG BANG THEORY, OBVIOUSLY.
24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Not really. Hate is a strong word.
25. What was the best book you read?
Hmmm. Man, I don't even remember what I read earlier in the year. Here's a few of the good ones:
The American Way of Death Revisited, by Jessica Mitford
Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers, by Mary Roach
Maps in a Mirror, by Orson Scott Card (a short story collection, but there was some great stuff in there.)
Fight Club, by Chuck Palahniuk
The Time Traveler's Wife, by Audrey Niffenegger
Eat Pray Love, by Elizabeth Gilbert
The Lovely Bones, by Alice Sebold (I saw a lot of films made from books that seemed ok enough to try out the novels. Turns out that the novels were pretty brilliant while the movies were only so-so adaptations.)
The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution, by Richard Dawkins (Kind of a modern update of Carl Sagan's Dragons of Eden: Speculations on the Evolution of Human Intelligence, which I also read this year. Both taught me a lot of interesting things about evolution that I didn't know or had never considered.)
26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Chris Thile (I knew him through Nickel Creek but finally got a taste of his solo stuff and his work with the Punch Brothers this year) and Sufjan's new EP and album.
27. What did you want and get?
BOOTS.
28. What was your favourite film of this year?
Inception, easily. Easy A was my second favorite!
29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
My birthday was on a Monday, so I baked myself a cake and lazed about. It was nice.
30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Different living situations. My apartment at college sucked balls up until the very end (when I started hanging out with my cooler roommates) and I've been living here at home since June, which, I'm thankful to have this option but it also sucks.
31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?
My short trip back to England got me into skirts and flats again, and this winter I've been wearing skinnies with knee-high slouchy boots a lot. I bought a new pair of brown suede slouchy boots this past weekend that I LOVE.
32. What kept you sane?
Honestly? Creative writing and photography.
33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Zachary Quinto and Jim Parsons. They're both disappointingly gay (disappointing for me, not for the rest of the world :P) and seem like wonderful people (Jim especially). Also, I have a massive girlcrush on Emma Stone. I'm sure there's more important public figures I should fancy or admire, but nope, it's all celebs all the time for me!
34. What political issue stirred you the most?
Health care reform here in the states.
35. Who did you miss?
My English friends, except for the three weeks I was with them.
36. Who was the best new person you met?
Marissa! She's perky and fun and a great friend. Also Martha, but technically I met her last year.
37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010:
It's important to weigh every option in life, while you're still young enough to do it.
38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Damn, this one's hard. It's been sort of a dud year and I've spent a good chunk of it feeling like I'm just biding my time... so I guess Blur sums it up:
Do you feel like a chain store?
Practically floored
One of many zeros, kicked around, bored
Your ears are full but you're empty
Holding out your heart
To people who never really care how you are
