Bwaha, you'll never be rid of me. Never!!!! And in three weeks, I'll get to pester you in person! I'd better start scheming about it now...
In response to the bulk of your post, tho, I most definitely know how you feel. It blows me away when people talk about friends they've had since preschool, or living in one place their entire life. The thing is, I don't know that a friend you've had for a really long time would necessarily know you better than a friend you've had for only a couple years. I think that has a lot more to do with the relationship you have with someone, and that's not entirely dependent on time.
Furthermore, I think that moving plays a great role in letting people change who they are. I've done it, I know you've done - taking advantage of being in a new place, and trying to change the things that you no longer like about yourself.
As for nostalgia... yeah, that generally makes me feel melancholy. Maybe it's supposed to be a wistful smile. Not an easy thing to communicate with a little yellow smiley face...
thats just the way it goes. the older you get the more you feel you need the people you knew when you were younger. highschool was a magical cocktail of crazy that just cant be recreated. i get nostalgic too.
