I presume this really means "all clients requests which deal with proxying/gateway clients (e.g. WAP clients)" (quoting from the other entry you linked to).
For example, PocketLJ, which I occasionally use to update via AvantGo from my PocketPC, also falls under this "proxying/gateway" category, and I have to give it the password for the LiveJournal accounts I want to post to, but it doesn't use WAP or WML.
