We're thinking about joining a CSA. Anyone have any recommendations on a) how to generally pick a good one and b) any specific CSAs that you like that deliver to the Flatbush/Kensington/Prospect Park South area?
kensington csa: http://www.kwtcsa.blogspot.com/ this farm is well established and has been associated with just food (umbrella organization for nyc CSAs) for a long time. it's in long island which means its growing season will be a little different from most of the farms that come to the greenmarkets.
the prospect lefferts garden csa might be closer to you, but is more expensive: http://www.plgcsa.org/ I don't know anything about that farm, but the website looks nice.
in general, my tip for picking a csa is to talk to sharemembers from previous seasons. ask how much produce they got, if they were satisfied with the amount, quality, variety. also ask if they felt like the deliveries/pickups were convenient and well-run, and how easy it was to get their food if they weren't available to get it themselves. if you care about having personal contact with the farmer(s), you might ask about that too.
