Musing on Friends

I was thinking about LJ interests for awhile, and how we usually base whether or not we friend someone on how much we have in common with them. However, that seems really odd to me; now we're picking our friends like we would rationalise a dinner. (Likes ___: check. Dislikes ___: hmm, not as good ( Read more... )

The only reason I use common interset is it would be hard to talk to someone who doesn't know/care about anime and I'm all obesssing over it. xD;; But you can have great friend that may be oppisites of you. So you do have a point. xD

I think it depends on how one meets another. Oftentimes, it has to do with interests, but at other times, it's personality. One's eljay is one's personality, in a sense, and I've often come across people whom I would friend based sheerly on their entries.

There's no way I would be exposed to the breadth of differences in real life that I do with internet contacts, some with beliefs which are almost diametrically opposed, ideas which I wouldn't dream of entertaining. It's a pretty interesting place.
