the past is a grotesque animal

I don't know where to begin.

Although Columbia rejected me, Case Western Reserve and Stony Brook both accepted me with generous offers; I'm still waiting to hear back from the other three. I hope so hard that I'll end up in Madison or Seattle and not Cleveland or Boulder. Why are they taking so long?! I still  haven't learned how to wait.

But waiting ( Read more... )

I shall enlist the aid of my fellow baptists in praying for you to receive a great offer from UW, here in Seattle. Happy in-the-sun-reading. Don't forget to look at boys.

i had a smartass remark about a recent study showing that people in the hospital who prayed for a quicker recovery actually took longer... but really, i just appreciate the sentiment. thanks! :)

i'll keep my eyes open down there. sooo looking forward to it.

Burton my friend, surly you and I are kindred spirits! knitting, wine, and world of warcraft?!? (not necessarily in that order mind you)

I'm knitting a big UofM blanket right now, just finished lvling my undead priest to 70, and enjoying a bottle of shariz/cabernet mix (not all right now, i'm actually waiting for class).

i'm sure i've asked you before, but what server do you play on? If you're ever horde side on Scarlet Crusade, look up Hermionie =)

Burton, I have disparaged your dwindling posts this year, but in some way find myself with such mixed emotions when you do resurface.

Like today, reading this post.

What is it about how we have so fucked up the brightest amongst us that they can't wait to get over with seemingly any phase of their life and thus develop an amazing impatience? It's a long ride, if you're lucky, and there is so much more coming. As I wrote the last time you posted, I feel like one day you will vanish, and I will often wonder about you until that day you make the boldly important contribution to humanity that you will make (in addition to those you have already made, but I sense you don't really think you have...another story) and I hear about you on NPR. Patience is not just a virtue, as it is said, but is - in my opinion - what sets those at peace apart from those who are not.

In the meantime, just live every moment in the present and enjoy. Don't let the wait get the best of you, Burton, and have an amazing time in FL next week.

i am trying... but i'm so rarely satisfied with the present, that's all. i have dreams, and inevitably those dreams have to be relegated to the future. hopefully one of these days i'll start living them.

shawn! it has been AGES. this comment just reminded me of something -- did you call me a little while back? i very vaguely remember drunkenly checking my voice mail and hearing something about a masquerade ball. note to self: don't check voice mail while drunk.

i might be visiting a grad school on the 31st... BUT just in case:
