I'd forgotten how amazing and frustrating a new language can be. I'm taking French 101, followed immediately by Spanish 491, along with a class on General Relativity, in which supposedly we speak English but actually just Math. I might as well be taking another language class. Je suis très occupé! Estoy muy ocupado! I'm very busy! E = mc^2, or

C'est magnifique ! Nous pouvons parler en français maintenant. Et aussi, tu peux enchanter tout le monde ! Je suis très excité !

(Are you having any trouble with the throaty r? It was such a pain transitioning and trying my damnedest not to trill it anymore.)

i actually understood all of that... yesssss.

i am having a terrible time with the r! i don't know how to pronounce anything, and even when i do, chances are good that i simply can't. it's frustrating. :(

Just make it as throaty as possible! A good practice is to pretend you are making the hard k sound in the back of your throat, and then slowly merging over to r, in the same area of your throat. It requires the bottom of your throat to pop up and make contact with the top/back area. It is such a strange feeling at first, but with practice, it just becomes natural feeling.

You'll get it.
