"I Go To Sleep" is basically genius, from the basic song itself to the way it's recorded (it fuckin' sounds like someone trying to go to sleep but not being able to, or dozing in and out of slumber while they're thinking about someone else). How they did not put that song on an album is completely baffling.

i've been staring at the village green preservation society lp for hours. just staring. i thought i was over this album. but no. no, i can never get over it. at a time when the dirty hippies were all too happy to chuck the old values and innocence, the kinks alone stood up and praised it. well, the kinks and jonathan richman.

i still love the old world.
