what gets said about it? ignorant whitey asking. and asking because i actually think a lot about hair, having been raised in the dyke community in vancouver. when i shaved my head, after having hair down to my bum, i noticed a stark difference in how people treated me. i wasn't mollycoddled as much, and no creepsters stopped to stare on the street or honk their horns. it was unsettling and relieving at the same time.
abt the article, which i will now go read -- i just Brick Lane, by (i think) Monica Ali. a British novel about the Muslim immigrant community in London. quite good, i thought. it's been shortlisted and won awards. do you know it? the connection is that one of the characters (a very, very minor character) is the victim of an acid attack.

By hair, hair, hair - I meant body hair. I know I made it seem a South Asian/Middle Eastern women thing - but really... I know alot of whities ; ) who have dark body hair. This is always a topic amongst us South Asian women, though, when we talk about our bodies - the hairiness factor.
And..haven't heard of Brick Lane by Monica Ali but it does sound good.
Guess what? My cousin Daljit (remember him?) is now a kundalini yoga instructor - he just passed his teacher's training class and is now teaching in Santa Cruz where he still goes to school.

body hair -- jesus, i have blonde hair on my head, but my body hair is still dark. it's darkest on my breasts... :p current lover doesn't mind, so neither do i. actually, i think it's funny, since i never hear it talked abt, but it's veeeeery much there, and i envy you a community in which to talk about various types of body hair... i am never sure what to do with it (on body or head), given the Khalsa recommendation that one ought not to cut/trim/shave any of it. be curious to be a fly on the wall during those discussions. i need solutions!
