Where are all the Regency romances with no nobility involved?

I have a small problem, guys.

I've been watching Garrow's Law recently, to fill the 'mindless relaxation' space in my life. It is a very charming and ridiculous BBC drama about William Garrow, who was a pretty cool lawyer in the 18th century who I had very vaguely heard of before watching this drama. I have now been educated to realise that he was ( Read more... )

OMG, I love this post. Because, OK, I had vaguely remembered hearing that Garrow's Law had some queer in it, but not which season/which ep. And I saw season 1, ep 1 on a re-run and couldn't quite feel enough love to persevere then (which was bad of me because episode one of anything rarely does a series justice, but anyway) but now I have a reason! especially if it's all free on YT

Yuletide bears own my soul just now, but in the New Year I will definitely be among a reading/writing/cheerleading posse for the Austenian GayLove, and would like to subscribe to your newsletter *g*

ISN'T THE SHOW RIDICULOUSLY IN LOVE WITH GARROW? Clearly they should have had you writing the ad copy because thrill, admire, swoon is clearly the response that they were going for. It's a good thing the show has Lady Sarah to occasionally knock him down a peg or ten, because otherwise I think it would be unbearable how madly the showrunners love him.

Although clearly they have a point! He appears to be the only person in the entire legal establishment with any sense of justice. Just look at Silvester! I wish this show had a fandom. Like, any kind of fandom. Then I could have my ridiculous discussion about Silvester and Garrow and their ridiculous relationship and get it off my chest. MAYBE WE CAN CREATE ONE. MAYBE IT CAN BE THE NEXT LOST PRINCE.

Except sadly I do not think it is as ridiculously idtastic, except perhaps for the duel scene, which is still one of my favorite scenes in anything of all time. The fact that Garrow bullheadedly insists on a duel even though he can't shoot! And then he shoots into the ground! And then ( ... )

IT'S INSANE, OH MY GOD. Just, he is so clearly the best thing to ever happen to anyone who is privileged enough to meet him. :D:D:D

TALK TO ME ABOUT SILVESTER. Personally, because goggles, I'm pretty sure he has a thing for Garrow and is basically pulling his pigtails. I love him and his silly pouty face and his empathy-challengedness. He's not a bad guy! He's just much better at gentlemanning than lawyering.

THE DUEL. OH MY GOD.

To be fair, the showrunners try to rein themselves in by having Lady Sarah and Southouse take him down repeatedly, but alas their overweening love for Garrow always shines through. I think it might have worked better if they had just given into their infatuation and made him an uncomplicated lawyer superhero ( ... )

UGH WHAT A NINCOMPOOP, clearly the only remedy is shooting him a little bit.

It is far too late for me to respond, and yet I really want you to know how much this made me grin.
