[Continued from here.]

Sam just blinked as she rattled off a rant full of more invective than he'd really thought possible without using a single curse word; but really, he had to keep reminding himself, this was Cordelia, and he was convinced that as far as knowing her went, he ought to get used to surprises. Especially eloquently vicious ones ( Read more... )

Sam quirked an eyebrow. "Oh for the days when I could have conscienced kicking one of the clinic patients out of their room... actually I'm kidding, I don't think I ever had days like that." He kept backing toward the stairs, his eyes glimmering with anticipation and enjoyment. He wasn't sure what to say; on the one hand, his gentlemanly sensibilities were severely offended by the idea of taking any girl, much less Cordelia, to a place as possibly sketchy as a storage room. On the other hand, he was pretty sure that once they were alone, things as trivial as scenery wouldn't even make it onto his radar.

Cordelia laughed a little at that. She couldn't picture Sam kicking anyone from anywhere; he was just too darned Good. Cordelia, on the other hand, would have had no qualms whatsoever about booting little old Mr. MacDoodle out of a nice warm bed he wasn't ever going to put to good use anyway. Clawing her way to the top of Sunnydale High hadn't been all sunshine and daisies and love-ins, after all.

"I don't believe you'd even had days where you thought about doing stuff like that," she said with just the tiniest hint of a smirk, giving his hand a squeeze.

"Hey, you never know," he protested with a mock serious expression. "I could be vicious. Come on, don't you think I have it in me? Evil politician and all." Really though, he wasn't feeling so much vicious as excited and a little mushy. His hand behind him found the railing and he paused to turn and at least sort of look where he was going; because really, among the suave and sexy things a guy could do to impress a girl, falling down the stairs wasn't on the top of the list. Actually, Sam was pretty sure it wasn't even ON the list.

He took the stairs quick, hopping off the last two and turning to face her again, backing toward the door. When his back hit it he fumbled for the knob, his other hand reaching for hers to pull her in after him.

Cordelia was actually pretty impressed by his going-backwards-down-the-stairs navigating skills, and she would have told him so had he not found the door to the storage room. Affording a last minute look over her shoulder at the stairwell -- just in case -- she allowed herself to be tugged inside. Not bothering to turn around, she kicked the door shut.

Brow arching, she disentangled her fingers from Sam's and skirted them up along the inside of his arm, resting at the crook of his elbow.

"Hi," she said coyly, eyes sparkling. "What's an Evil Politician such as yourself doing in a place like this?"
