Title: To Please the Monster Inside [Chapter Nine]
Pairing: Carlisle/Jasper, Jasper/Alice
Rating: PG-13
Disclaimer: Fiction
Summary: The monster inside Jasper lusts for human blood. When the desire is too strong to resist, there is only one who can help. Carlisle tamed this monster once, and now he must try again.

As he rushed toward his room, the only person Jasper hoped to find was Alice. So it goes without saying that he was less than thrilled to run, literally, into Edward. His brother gasped at the sudden impact as their strong, hard bodies collided. Jasper swore, stepping back to apologise to Edward.

"Sorry," he breathed, "I wasn't concerntrating."

Edward's glare sent shivers down his cold spine.

Jasper held his hands up in front of him, taking another three steps back as he felt his brother's rage sweep over him. It wasn't the usual anger that Jasper had come to expect - it was aggressive and violent. It frightened him.

"Edward... what's wrong?" Jasper could barely whisper. Every muscle in his body tensed as he prepared for an unwanted fight.

Edward's eyes were almost black. He stalked toward the empath with fists clenched tight. "Hasn't he given you enough already?"

Jasper frowned, not even trying to calm the mind reader's fury. "Are we talking about Carlisle?"

"He gave you a family and a home. He gave you safety and love. He even let you drink from him. And still, that doesn't seem to be enough. How can you be so entirely consumed by lust?"

The empath's frown grew deeper as he lowered his hands, taking one small, careful step toward his brother. "What are you talking about? What have I done now, to make you feel so... disgusted?"

Edward growled. "I can read your fucking mind, Jasper! I know every twisted, sinful thought that crosssed your mind tonight. Have you run out of poems to recite? Or do you just not care if I hear your thoughts now?"

Jasper stared, running through every single thought he'd had in the past few hours. For a second, he came up blank. But then it clicked. "Oh." He said softly, suddenly understanding Edward's rage. "Edward, I would never act on such thoughts. I'm standing here with you right now because I made myself leave. I didn't touch him..."

"Yet."

"What?"

"You didn't touch him yet, Jasper. You didn't touch him yet, but you will. You know you will. I know you will. Alice knows you will. Its only a matter of time."

Jasper was silent, his eyes fell to the floor.

"You make me sick." Edward whispered. "After all that you've taken from him... Now you want his body too."

The mind reader waited for a moment longer, maybe to see if Jasper would respond.

He didn't.

After sending the strongest wave of revulsion toward the empath, Edward pushed past him and walked away.

After standing still, frozen as ice, for twenty minutes, Jasper inhaled long and deep, and crept to his room.

The light was on. Alice was standing at the large window, hands clasped behind her back, completely still.

She didn't acknowledge Jasper's presence, and he couldn't feel her mood. It seemed that there was nothing to feel. She was blank. No emotion at all. Empty.

It was then that Jasper realised what was happening. She wasn't star-gazing, or looking out at the forest. She was frozen still, void of all feeling because she was seeing something.

She was having a vision.

Not wanting to startle or scare her, Jasper paced over, silently, to stand beside his mate. He didn't touch her, or speak. He just waited, watching her pretty, peaceful little face.

Her eyes were closed, lips pulled together in a thin line.

Two minutes passed.

Three.

Five.

Seven.

Twelve.

Fifteen.

Sixteen.

Her eyes flew open.

She blinked, and blinked again, and then she turned to Jasper, a scowl crossing her face. Jasper cringed as the force of her returning emotions hit him - pain, worry, confusion, anger, and jealousy.

And love.

"What did you see, Alice?" Jasper stepped forward, closing the small distance between their bodies. His hands went to her tiny waist, his eyes searching her face for an answer.

There was none.

Alice wouldn't look at him.

"What's wrong?" He pushed, trying to draw his own conclusions. "Was it the Volturi?"

She closed her eyes, shaking her head. "They are still there. I see them, but nothing has changed. They are not a threat."

"Then what, Alice?"

She met his gaze, and a sudden, massive surge of pain washed over the empath, digging its claws into his heart. "Alice..." He begged.

"I thought... maybe, if I told you... It would alter things. I thought if you knew what I saw, it would stop you... I hoped that you might change your mind."

Jasper sighed heavily, pulling her head to rest against his chest. He knew exactly what she had seen. And he understood her emotions perfectly.

She felt pain, because of him.

She was worried and confused, because of him.

She was angry, because of him.

And she was jealous.

His cheerful, sweet little Alice was jealous of Carlisle...

Because of him.

And still, beneath it all, there was love.
