Explaining "Heart" :: 1 & 2
"Heart" is comprised of everything you love and cherish. Your friends and family and the memories you've made with them. In short, when Kaien says he fights to protect his heart, he's fighting to protect himself and all that he is. He defines himself as someone who is shaped by the people around him and to him those friendships and bonds he's created are more precious than anything else in the world.
Still working on his whole "don't die alone and pass your heart on" bit though so this bit of head-canon might change soon...

"Rules" :: Video 1 & 2
So apparently Kaien taught Jidanbo the rules of the Rukongai as seen in the videos. I gotta admit, when he yelled at Ichigo about being ungrateful, I definitely sensed Kaien in there. Hence, the videos made it in. (Man, this guy...)
1: Wash your hands when you come in from the outside.
2: Don't eat food that's fallen on the floor.
3: A duel is one-on-one.
4: (?) If someone waits for you, you're supposed to say thanks.

... I am totally going with Spiral Flower here. I don't care if the subbers dubbed it Screw Flower, Neji can translate to any of the three and Spiral Flower is the only one that doesn't sound silly in my head...
