The war would seems to have been unending, at least until our unlikely savior rose from circumstance to protect everything he had lost and everything he had to gain.
-Excerpt, The Diary of Zion, pg. 56-
Everything was changing as he watched it in front of him. It wasn’t something he could explain the understanding escaped him as she changed. She used to be kind and have a moral compass, always promising the path to the brighter future. He couldn’t remember a time with out her as he headed towards her quarters. Though he couldn’t remember anything before…yet he knew she hadn’t always existed that she had a connection to him.
He tapped in his code as the door swiped to the side. The room was bare except get monitor console towering in the center. She was always connected to it monitoring the warfront at all times. She did not require sleep. Her form was hauntingly beautiful to him. She walked in the bare but never carried the air of shame.
“Greetings, A-9” she said as she stood there the with the Tech’s. He knew it had finally come as he looked at her. He couldn’t do anything anymore; he had failed her as a commander.
“So, it has come to that has it Evangeline” the name slipped past his restraint as the memories flooded back. She almost winced at that name as her posture changed as a sigh escaped her lips. Human emotion…something he had never seen before.
“I’m sorry, Adam”
The Tech’s moved towards him as he put up no fight, he removed his should holster and dropped it to the ground as the escorted him out towards reconditioning.
His body ached at every movement. His lungs burned and his eyes watered as he gasped for air. He prayed for the darkness to come and consume him as he felt the cold envelope him again. His lungs empty and screaming as his brain commanded his body to fight against his will. His HUD displayed the warnings as he convulsed the words danger burning into the back of his eyeballs.
Once again they pulled him out and threw him to the ground as the kicked him. His ribs were broken as he coughed up blood and bile. His vision blurring as they picked him up again carrying him to his box. The tossed him inside as all he could do was curl up and hope that today he would be the day he died.
He knew it wouldn’t though, his genetic enhancement wouldn’t allow it. His body would heal but his mind was breaking as the darkness sank in for the night. The cries of his fellow prisoners echoes through the stone room, they wouldn’t kill him and he wouldn’t die. His body enhanced by Master OS would heal before the days end but he was sure his mind couldn’t take anymore.
His breath weighed heavy on him as the tears streamed down his face. He didn’t want to do it anymore, he doubt he could. He couldn’t serve her without question anymore. He wanted to remember, remember who he was and what the world had been before she existed. He wanted to remember why even now he still loved her.
The thoughts circled his head as his consciousness faded out in the cold cell.
He awoke the sound of his cage being opened as he was pulled out on the hard concrete as the beat him again. He curled up into a ball, again as he felt his freshly healed ribs snap like twigs again. They carried him to a different room this time.
He didn’t care anymore as they pulled him through the corridor. Small glimpses of the sun shone though the 1x1 windows, even in the brief second he passed them the light felt warm on his skin. They brought him to the table as the threw him against it and strapped him in. he began to panic as he couldn’t move and the beat him again. His rib cage shattered as he could barely breathe through the blood and bile as his organ screamed for relief. Finally tired from beating on him they left as the water dripped on his forehead. Every drop chipped away at his mind as the water mixed into his tears. He couldn’t take it any longer, he was starving, hurting, and going insane in this place. The dark faded again as he felt himself gasp for air.
He woke in his bed sweating as he looked around. Beside him laid the beautiful women he took to bed as she mumbled to consciousness as the dreams haunted him.. He didn’t want to remember his reconditioning, as he looked her. She was beautiful as she stirred, she laid next to him in the nude;.
“Commander…” 8592-X said as the blush crossed her face.
“Adam, my name is Adam” he said as he kissed her again. He was going
to take the day off and enjoy her as he pushed his memories out of his mind.
