Sam stood on the balcony and looked at the ocean, the breeze drifting across her made her shiver involuntarily.
"You should get out of the cold," Major Lorne stepped out from the shadows.
"I can't sleep," she replied.
"Then here," Evan removed his jacket and draped it over her shoulders. "This should keep you warm."
Sam smiled back at him. "Thank you Evan."
"You're welcome Colonel."
"Call me Sam. You use to back at the SGC."
"That was before you were promoted."
"It could have gone the other way. You could have been the leader of SG-1 and my CO instead. It did in one universe."
"Still doesn't help ma'am."
"Help?"
Evan looked at her and leaned in. His lips met hers in a chaste kiss. His eyes shone under the moonlight and she could see the tears. "I still would never have a chance," he whispered as he walked away.
