Jack/Vala- forfeit, NC-17holdouttroutNovember 6 2007, 00:26:51 UTC
Their game had started when Sam went to Atlantis. Jack tried not to think too hard about the timing, or about the fact that they'd kinda sorta waited ten years just to throw it all away in the eleventh hour.
Of course, it was more apparent every day that Vala--who had considerably less patience than he did, and that was saying something--had given up waiting for something, too. At the same time. Jack tried even harder not to think about what that meant

This is a Jack/Vala story, and all I could think about was poor Sam! :(
But this:

No, no, no, don't misunderstand me! :)
I thought it was brilliant, but there's this *thing* I have, this really weird thing. I'm a Sam-shipper whore...I really don't mind her paired with anyone, but Jack? Unless it's OT3, I think he should be pining away for Sam. How messed up is that? I think I need therapy!
But seriously, I don't want you to think I didn't like it because it was beautiful, and bitersweet, and angsty, and really, just awesome. :)

I love the guessing-game thing! And the way the last line, aside from having this intrinsic hotness as an extension of the control dynamic from the paragraph just before it, kind of comes full circle back to the opening -- the poignant implications about what you get in the end and what you don't, what you win and what you lose. That works so well with this pairing.

I'm always a little fascinated by what people do with the dynamic between Jack and Vala, and I love this interpretation. I love how upfront Vala is, and the hanging absence of the things they'd both been waiting for and never got.

Huh. Really interesting dynamic there. Somehow I can see her just storming into his life - declaring he needs some adventure, and him just gaping back at her. (I love the bit about showing up with only tequila and a bag of groceries)

I liked this a lot! I'm developing a real fondness for stories that deal with the SG-1 dynamic in Sam's absence, and there's a pleasant sort of bittersweetness to this that makes it feel like a real relationship (which probably says a lot about my love life *g*).

God! The things you people do to me!
Beautiful.

Yes--I was a little bit puzzled as to where the poor Sam stuff came from in this one. I hope it works!

(Sorry for the miscommunication)

Can we just assume that Sam is with Daniel or Teal'c and Jack is broken-hearted, thus that's why he's with Vala? :)

How about both? :)

Oooooh. I didn't even realize it, but yes--that was what I didn't know I was going for. Does that make sense at all?
